The Mission of Christ Episcopal Church
Our Parish Mission is described in our five classes of ministeries:
- Worship: Our focus is on God and realizing God's self revelation to us. I worship through prayer, praise, words, and actions in the context of a community of believers and seekers. I am affirmed, affected in that moment, and changed ( empowered, strengthened). I go out as a new self, with a new zeal, new understanding, renewed purpose and openness.
- Fellowship: Pastoral Care - Christian community - Having fun. Together we are the Body of Christ. We walk together, caring and supporting each other. We share fellowship together. We share life's joys and sorrows. I am a part of the whole and do not stand alone. It is the Body of Christ ( not any one individual) that works God's plan in Christ Church. We learn to love each other. As we have fun together, I learn I am part of the whole.
- Education: I am formed as a disciple of Christ. This is formation and discipleship. I learn how to be a Christian, not so much how to "do" Christian. I learn about the Christian life as I develop habits, morals, values, and virtues for Christian maturity. I participate in Bible study, ongoing Christian education, prayer, and giving as I prepare myself to be the part of the Body of Christ that God has called me to be. I know my spiritual gifts and am working on sharpening them, enhancing them. But gifts do not end with me. The purpose for all of this is not for myself. It is for the sake of ministry for giving and for bringing Christ to the world. I know the goals of the Body and can see where I fit into reaching toward those goals.
- Outreach: This is Service in Christ's name. The Body of Christ coordinates its efforts and targets its energies, resources, and gifts in order to reconcile the world to Christ. We are strengthened through worship, equipped through education, and supported through our Christian Community all in preparation to be sent out to be Christ to the world.
- Evangelism: This is bringing Christ to others. We bring the life-saving message of Christ to the world. We participate in God's work to reconcile the world to Christ. We acknowledge others as already being a part of the Body of Christ whether they are worshipping with us or not. We invite others to accompany us on this journey. We invite others to meet Jesus.
